Uneven tone is the visible end of a process your skin runs every day. A trigger (UV, oxidative stress) tells pigment cells to get to work, they produce melanin, and the melanin is handed off to the surface cells where you see it. This sheet mask is formulated to act at the start and the end of that process. The ETERNO's green light is studied for its interaction with the pigment that's already there.

What's on the sheet

At the trigger — Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone), green tea, sea buckthorn, purslane and rosemary. Antioxidants, chosen because oxidative stress is one of the signals upstream of pigment production.

At the hand-off — Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), the fifth ingredient on the list. Studied specifically for its role in the transfer step, the point where packaged melanin moves from the pigment cell to the surface cells. Melanin that isn't transferred isn't visible.

Support — Ceramide NP, panthenol, aloe, centella, allantoin and beta-glucan for barrier comfort, and mandarin peel oil for the scent.

What the light adds

Melanin exists to absorb light. 525nm green light is studied for its interaction with melanin-containing cells in the upper layers of skin, which is why green is the wavelength for this pairing rather than red or NIR, which are chosen for depth. If you've read about green light and the appearance of uneven tone, sun spots or age spots, this is the mechanism those studies examine.

The sheet mask works on how pigment is made and moved. The light works on the pigment that's there.

How to use

Cleanse and tone. Unfold the sheet mask and apply. Leave on for 15–20 minutes, remove, and pat the remaining essence in. Put on the ETERNO, select the green setting, and run a session; the ETERNO hovers about 3mm off the skin, so it sits comfortably over freshly applied essence. Use in the evening and pair with sunscreen the next morning.
