Most shampoos are designed to clean your hair. This one is designed to prepare your scalp.
Your scalp is skin. Follicle openings collect sebum, product residue, and dead skin cells. When that happens, anything you apply afterward sits on top of the buildup instead of reaching the follicle. This shampoo is the cleansing step of the Light Fusion Hair protocol. It clears the follicle openings with salicylic acid and starts the same actives found in the Hair Therapy Mist — so the protocol begins at the wash, before the mist, before the light.
What's in it
Clearing the ground — Salicylic acid, a beta-hydroxy acid. It's oil-soluble, which means it works inside the follicle opening, not just on the surface. Studied extensively for its role in scalp exfoliation and clearing the follicle canal. It's a prep ingredient: clean follicle openings let the mist's actives absorb instead of sitting on buildup.
At the follicle — Caffeine, studied for its interaction with androgen signaling biology at the hair follicle root sheath (Fischer et al., 2007). And a copper peptide complex — Alanine/Histidine/Lysine Polypeptide Copper HCl, from the GHK-Cu family — studied for its role in the VEGF-related pathways associated with capillary formation (Pickart et al., 2015). Follicles are fed by capillaries. This is the supply-line side of the formula, and both actives continue in the mist.
Circulation biology — Four inputs, each studied in the context of blood-flow pathways near the skin, each through a different route. Menthol and menthyl lactate, studied for their interaction with TRPM8 receptors — the same receptors that respond to cold. Zanthoxylum alatum, the Szechuan pepper botanical, whose sanshool compounds are studied for their interaction with TRPV channels. Rooibos, whose flavonoids are studied for their role in nitric oxide biology — a signaling molecule involved in blood vessel behavior. And Scutellaria baicalensis, whose baicalin is studied in the same nitric oxide context. Different receptors. Different pathways. One design logic.
Follicle-cycle botanicals — Eclipta prostrata, studied for its role in Wnt/β-catenin signaling biology, the pathway examined in hair follicle stem cell research. And Polygonum multiflorum (He Shou Wu), studied in the context of scalp antioxidant biology. Both appear in the mist too — starting them here means the follicle meets them at first contact.
Hair and scalp condition — Panthenol and panthenyl ethyl ether, two forms of vitamin B5: one penetrates the hair cortex, the more oil-compatible form conditions deeper at the shaft and scalp. Hydroxypropyltrimonium hydrolyzed silk — silk protein with a positive charge, which makes it bind selectively to the damaged, negatively charged spots on the hair shaft. It deposits where your hair needs it most. Allantoin for scalp comfort. And an amino acid complex — glycine, serine, leucine, lysine, cysteine, arginine and others. Cysteine matters because it forms the disulfide bonds that hold the hair shaft together. Arginine is a building block in nitric oxide biology.
The base — Four surfactants, none of them SLS: sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate, disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, potassium cocoyl glycinate, and potassium cocoate. The first two are significantly milder than traditional sulfates. The coconut-derived pair builds a rich lather without stripping your scalp's natural oil balance.
What the light adds
Follicles sit a few millimeters down in the scalp — within reach of red and near-infrared light. Those wavelengths are studied for their interaction with cytochrome c oxidase, an enzyme inside your mitochondria (the part of the cell that makes energy), and for their role in nitric oxide biology — the same molecule several of this formula's botanicals are studied around. Red light and hair follicle biology is one of the most active corners of photobiomodulation research. This protocol was developed in the context of Korean Dermatological Society research on exactly that pairing.
The shampoo clears the ground and starts the actives. The mist continues them, leave-in. The light is the third input, on the same biology.
How to use
Apply to wet hair and scalp. Massage gently to build a lather — focus on the scalp, not just the hair length. Let it sit for 60–90 seconds so the salicylic acid and actives have time to work at the follicle level. Rinse thoroughly. Use daily or as needed.
The full protocol
Step 1 — Shampoo. Cleanse the scalp and clear the follicle openings.
Step 2 — Mist. Spray the Light Fusion Hair Therapy Mist onto the scalp, massage in, and allow 3–5 minutes to absorb.
Step 3 — Red light. Place the Firewave or Firewave PRO at the top of a yoga mat and lie down with the COB module aligned to the center of your head, 14–16 inches from the scalp. Never closer than 12 inches. Your hair should feel only slightly warm — never hot. 10–20 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need the mist and the light, or does this work on its own?
It works on its own as a daily shampoo. But it was formulated as step one of a three-step protocol — shampoo, mist, red light. The salicylic acid clears the follicle opening so the mist can absorb better, and the mist puts its actives in place before the light. Each step prepares the next one.
Why is there salicylic acid in a shampoo?
Because it's oil-soluble — it penetrates into the follicle opening rather than just cleaning the surface. Buildup at the follicle level can block topical actives from absorbing. Clean follicle openings mean the mist gets to where the biology is.
Is it safe for color-treated hair?
The surfactant system is SLS-free and formulated to clean without stripping. Salicylic acid at cosmetic concentrations is generally considered fine for color-treated hair, but if your hair is freshly processed, spacing out use for the first week is standard advice.
What's the difference between this and the mist?
The shampoo is a rinse-off cleansing step. The mist is a leave-in. They share key actives — particularly the copper peptide complex — but they serve different stages. Shampoo first, mist after.
