The Firewave is built around a 200W COB (Chip-on-Board) module — LED chips bonded directly to a substrate: no housings, no gaps, no scatter. It's the same 200W COB that powers our Inferno, which Light Labs International, an independent lab, measured at 138.39 mW/cm² at 6 inches and 67.22 mW/cm² at 12 inches — the Firewave's output is essentially identical. Those are measurements, not usage advice: our panels are powerful enough that we recommend sessions at 12–24 inches — at real sitting distance, you're still receiving effective irradiance.
The wavelengths: cytochrome c oxidase, the mitochondrial enzyme at the center of photobiomodulation research, has absorption peaks near 630nm, 670nm, and 830nm — so those are the Firewave's three. 630nm works in the dermis (fibroblast activity, collagen production), 670nm reaches slightly deeper, and 830nm near-infrared penetrates centimeters into muscle, joint, and connective tissue. 830nm is invisible to the eye — wear the included blackout goggles every session.
Full-body coverage, seated: the 60-degree beam is intentional. Sit in meditation pose 12–18 inches from the panel with the COB lined up at your sternum, and the beam reaches your whole seated body — most people get full-body coverage from this one compact panel. That's not a diagram claim: in the gallery above, right after Robert Hunt's measurement video, you'll see exactly this setup — whole body inside the beam. Start LED-only at 5 minutes, build to 20, add the COB as you adapt. Face: LED mode only, 18–24 inches. Up to 5 sessions per week.
What we've measured: flicker is 3.2%, independently tested by Dr. Jack Kruse. Electromagnetic fields fall off sharply with distance — measurable close to the panel, below detectable levels at 12 inches. That's the real point of the COB's high output: because irradiance stays strong at distance, you take your whole session at 12 inches or more — full output, from outside the fields rather than inside them. Want 0% flicker from Meanwell industrial-grade drivers? That's the Firewave PRO — same wavelengths, same irradiance, upgraded power supplies.
